Arrest of judges: NBA rejects Buhari’s explanation

The Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA) has rejected the explanation by President Muhammadu Buhari on the raids carried out by DSS on Judges homes over the weekend nationwide.

Speaking at a valedictory court sitting in honour of Justice Suleiman Galadima, which took place at the Supreme Court this morning the NBA President Abubakar Mahmud SAN maintained that the DSS raids on Judges homes was illegal.

President Muhammadu Buhari had said the raids on the judge’s residence by the State Security Service, SSS, was an assault on corruption and not on the judiciary.

The president in a statement by his media adviser, Garba Shehu, described the raids as ‘surgical’ saying due process was followed in the arrests.

Abubakar Mahmud said that the NBA’s position was not to protect the judge’s but to stand up against corruption.

According to him, the DSS should not be the ones to undertake the operations adding that the events in Ghana took 2 years of investigations before the judge’s were arrested and did not follow the Gestapo action of the DSS.
