My Grouse: 57th NBA Annual Conference , Why are we Holding it in Lagos Self

0

Before I start my rant today, I want to show little bit of statistics that I gathered from NBA itself, presently we have 125 Branches of the NBA across the 36 states in Nigerian. Why not? Lagos alone has NBA Lagos, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Badagry and then Epe branch! Lagos no dey carry last. Therefore, it would be safe for me to assume that we have Lawyers in every of the 36 states of the federation who have formed themselves into a branch of the NBA.

Another interesting  thing I found is that the NBA Conference has held for a total of 56 times, well that one, I didn’t have to do a lot of research; if the August 2017 Lagos conference is the 57th and the Port Harcourt conference was the 56th, then the conference has held 56 times. Who statistics epp?

Back to my rant, hmmm, I took a little more statistics of the venues of the conferences for just 8 years, between  2009 – 2016 and that is what is why I am wondering aloud. Wetin happen? Why are we not utilizing the rich cultural heritage of this country by travelling around the 36 states for the conference? Why do we have to hold the conference twice in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt in 8 years while we have 36 states?  Mbok, I have even seen something about bid to host and the guideline abi criteria. Wetin happen? What is all these about providing heaven and earth to qualify to host ordinary NBA Conference. And then we are using same to rotate hosting around just few states. Please what should be the rational behind hosting of the conference and why would States that have hosted bid again? How would NBA Lagos and NBA Enugu for instance bid for hosting right? Na wa o!

The people that are crying marginalization are right o. Me I want to start an agitation ni! The NBA Branch of my state will soon receive my protest letter, wi wi nor takit!

Me, I don’t have a problem with this NBA Ancestors who gather in one place to decide our welfare, my worry is that I think they don’t have robust deliberations on decisions they take at these gatherings. That is how they came out with outrageous conference fee and some of them self that attended the conference were joining us to lament! Hia!

Why are we not attending this conference in other states? Someone will now say security, abi? NBA people no dey those places? And what are the security risks in Ogun, Edo, Enugu, Bayelsa, Kogi, Kwara, Zamfara, Sokoto, Anambra, Ebonyi, etc. Why are we running round just a few states? I admit that I may be speaking from an ignoramus point of view but I am entitled to my opinion and that is the part I love about life! That part where I have the right to say whatever I feel and then watch you deal with it!

Apart from the fact that over 70% of all the lawyers in Nigeria who are interested in NBA activities are in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, this bar conference affords a lot of lawyers in these areas (especially those of us wey no get money take do vacation!) the  opportunity to change environment

Me I will just pay for the conference, collect my tablet and one year law pavilion subscription and go home! I can’t deal with the stress of Lagos abeg. I hope I won’t be back to rant that the tablet no reach me or e no work!
