LASU LAW’s Sijuade Animashaun wins UK Chevening Scholarship


Sijuade Animashaun, a Lagos State University, Ojo alumni has been awarded the UK Chevening scholarship to study a Masters of Law degree in Great Britain by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

The highly competitive scholarship, according to the British High Commissioner Paul Arkwright, was awarded to 40 Nigerians with outstanding academic achievements and leadership qualities out of thousands of applicants this year. The Chevening is the UK government’s global scholarship programme that offers exceptional scholars with potentials of future leaders the unique opportunity to study a fully funded master’s degree in the UK and become members of the Global network of the prestigious Chevening Community.

Sijuade was a celebrated student during his days in the Lagos State University having maintained his status as a University Scholar and a Lagos State scholarship awardee throughout his undergraduate degree programme before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School where he graduated among the top 5% in 2014.

When asked how he felt about the application and award he said “am so grateful to God for this opportunity to productively contribute to the development of my country in the global arena”. He also wished to appreciate the efforts of his parents, family and friends, a Lasulaw’s Chevening alumnus, Ihenetu Godfrey Chinedu, members of the Faculty of Law, Lagos State University particularly Mr. Abubakr Yekini, Associate Prof. Rufus Olaoluwa and Dr. Hamzat Edu who are lecturers in the Faculty.

As a practicing lawyer, Sijuade has participated  in top notch cases all over the country and most recently, he is an associate  in the Law firm of Akin Adesomoju & Co, a corporate firm actively representing top players in the banking and agricultural sector particularly in the implementation of the N220b Central Bank of Nigeria’s MSMDF.

The selected scholars shall be travelling for their degree programmes in the UK in September while applications for the 2018/2019 Chevening scholarship has commenced since August 7, 2017 on the Chevening website till November 7, 2017.
