Law Students’ Challenge: “Why I Love My Dean” – Samuel Irusota

Samuel Irusote

I never envisaged studying to become a Lawyer, but like a twist of fate, I found myself studying Law.

My sojourn into the Legal profession was predicted on the inspiring story of a Legal genius who happens to be my Dean. He is professor S.E Edekor, dean Faculty Of Law, Ambrose Alli University. Here is a brief history about him.

He hails from Illeh  in Ekpoma ,Esan west Local Government Area, Edo State. Ekpoma a rustic and agrarian town is surrounded by several quarters such as Illeh, Ewu, Irrua, Uromi. He was born on June 27, 1980 to Mr Edekor according to family records. He attended Illeh Secondary School where he had both his primary and secondary education.

Soon after his Secondary education, he was admitted into Ambrose Alli University to study English. Prof S.E Edekor who had Always wanted to study Law began to feel lack of fulfillment in his current course of study. The introduction of the Faculty of Law in the University, awoken his Latent ambition.

To achieve his dream of becoming a Lawyer, he made frantic efforts to change course but it was impossible still he remained unfazed. He Later secured admission to study Law in the University and graduated in 1994.

He is humility personified, a philanthropist with a large heart whose passion and mission is helping humanity, hence he owns an orphanage. His magnanimity has endeared him to both students and Lawyers in general. He also doubles as a lover of peace and he is the founder of Ambassadors Of Peace Initiative, AAU.

His streak for books  has not abated and has seen him authored books and contributed articles to several Law journals amongst others.

Having worked his way to one of the highest echelons in academics in the legal profession, My dean holds the conviction that Justice should be denied to no one.

Indeed in the immortal words of Williams Shakespeare, some are born great, some have greatness thrust on them while others achieve greatness.

My dean Prof S.E Edekor did not have any of the first two, but has lived true in achieving greatness by dint of hardwork, discipline and fear of God.

In Conclusion, I hope that one day I will become a SAN, a converted position and the peak of the Legal Profession so that i can contribute to humanity and Society just like my Dean Professor S.E Edekor.
