Poetic Side with Bolaji: Adjournment

0
Bolaji Ramos, Lawyer and Poet

My Honourable Lord, Sir

There is an urgent emergency

That discomforts my diaphragm.

I ate eba and egusi soup yesterday,

Constipation is taking a toll and a stroll

In the vicinity of my stomach and my stomata.

I have spoken to my brother Silk on the other side,

We want an adjournment—

A very short date, My Lord.

My Honourable Lord, Sir

The fragile walls of my uterus

Still feel the pangs of menstrual grips.

The herbal teas and the tablets

Could not consume the punches

Of these scary menstrual trenches.

I have spoken to my fellow Silk on the other side

We want an adjournment—

A very short date, My Lord.

My Noble Lord, Sir

The Learned Silk, my Principal,

Is before the Court of Appeal today.

The Learned Silk wishes to personally take:

Our Notice of Preliminary Objection

And our Motion for Interlocutory Injunction.

I have spoken to learned counsel to the Claimant

We want an adjournment—

A very short date, My Lord.

My Noble Lord, Sir

Mrs. A.A Abaniwonda,SAN,

Received a national clarion call this morning.

The salient points in the Final Written Addresses

And the issues raised suo motu by the Court

Are things Learned Silk wishes to personally address.

I have spoken to my learned brother on the other side

We want an adjournment—

A very short date, My Lord.

Adjournment upon adjournment,

Justice bleeds at the feet of lawyers’ self-endowment

Adjournment upon miniature reason,

Justice weeps for every learned esquire’s treason.

Adjournment coated in the toga of delay

Is the road to leading Justice astray.
