Nigerians are known to be highly analytical when they have divided interests. This is often very pronounced in activities such as elections. The analytical skills and predictive powers are often a little out of the ordinary.
The NBA election is becoming just as noisy and clumsy as general elections in Nigeria. This should be a concern for anyone who has little emotional attachment to the legal profession in Nigeria. What is more worrisome is the fact that as lawyers, we have decided to take everything for granted including integrity.
There has been disturbing whispers from Uyo NBA-NEC!

“The weather of Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom, South-south Nigeria, was welcoming and lawyers attending NBA National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, were awed by the neat beauty of Uyo.
Most first time visitors were overheard lamenting and comparing the town to their dirty state capital and questioned the achievements of their state governors.
The registration was hassle free and the hotels far above standard. Before one could settle in, phones started beeping with SMS of venue of one party or the other.
Uyo, is the home base of Paul Usoro,SAN. He is a late comer into the race for 2018 NBA President, which had been zoned to the South East-comprising of Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambara, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers.
Once Uyo was chosen as venue of NEC meeting, political watchers in NBA raised their antennas and all sorts of unconfirmed signals were picked up.
Some believed that Uyo was chosen to allow Paul Usoro, SAN to gain lost ground as a late comer and showcase himself. People of this school of thought opine that AB Mahmoud’s exco, is leaning towards Usoro due to Eastern Bar Forum (EBF) failure to yet adopt a consensus candidate.
Another school of mischief makers, started spreading fart that a presidential candidate was sending air ticket to those coming for NEC meeting. Technically, there is nothing wrong with this, as most NBA branches are broke and go cap in hand begging for assistance. But this being the eve of 2018, every move is looked at through politically colored binoculars!
The beeping phones, kept beeping with venues of welcome parties! Unlike the previous NEC meeting that usually has Local Branch’s-AG welcome cocktail and dinner by the Governor, the 2018 presidential hopefuls took over spaces in Uyo and organised elaborate welcome party.
All the parties were a bomb. NEC members had a night with Bacchus, the god of wine and some were as drunk as a sailor at Oron harbor!
I wonder if hangover headache will allow NEC members concentrate on the issues listed on the agenda for NEC meeting at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort by 9AM or will chant of Adopted! Adopted!! echo on every issue raised?
Will hangover and overworked waist allow NEC members to stand up and argue their Branch’s welfare and other issues confronting NBA?
I am of the opinion that NEC meeting, should be a serious affair and opening session should be held without politicians attending. Opening session has become a platform for the host governor and his AG to market their state, wearing out NEC members, who once the photo session with the politicians is over, feel the NEC meeting is over too.
I sincerely wish NBA will do away or drastically reduce NEC appurtenances and dedicate 6 uninterrupted hours to NBA issues.
Who says we cannot have a night session on the arrival day and continue the debate/meeting the next day after breakfast?
As you feast on these, I wish you successful deliberation.
All of these point to one thing; there are some unhealthy and permutations”

What transpired in Uyo on Wednesday, 22nd November 2017 is unheard of in the annals of NBA.
That all attempts were made to ensure that the Welcome Party put together by friends of Arthur Obi Okafor SAN does not hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
All the gates of the Clubs in Uyo were shut against Arthur Obi Okafor to ensure that the party does not hold. Prior arrangements made and contract sealed with the best Club in Uyo was revoked few hours to the time fixed for the party and attempts to secure other venues were rebuffed by other Clubs and events facility owners.
But Almighty Jehovah, the I am that I am, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nisi, The Mighty Man in Battle, The owner of the Universe and the El Shaddai, The El Gibor put them to shame.
The Party held successfully at a facility owned by foreigners where their local powers cannot hold down.
I say shame to gangsterism, wickedness and naked desperation to put out the light of Arthur Obi Okafor. They failed and woefully they did.”
This is just the beginning. I am certain there would be more reactions.
