The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch, Mr. Adesina Ogunlana and two other members of the Branch have been accused of corruption in the running of their offices as the Executive and past Executives of the branch.
In a five pages petition addressed to the National President of the NBA Mr. A.B Mahmoud SAN, the petitioners who call themselves the solicitors and concerned members of the branch alleged that Mr. Ogunlana conspired with the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Yinka Farounbi and the immediate past Treasurer Mrs. Derin Kappo to among other things, withdraw monies from the account of the branch without proper approval from the members and in violation of the provisions of the NBA Bye Laws.
The petition which was signed by four of the said concerned members also alleged that the seizure of property belonging to the branch by the Chairman and members of the past executives.
The allegation against the Chairman as highlighted in the letter dated 23rd May, 2018 are both weighty and scandalous. While the NBA National President is expected to set up machinery to investigate the allegations, many have expressed concerned over the turn of event in the once volatile NBA branch.
Curiously, the Petition is coming on the heels of a recent allegation by Mr. Adesina Ogunlana that some elders of the Branch are attempting to foist candidates on the branch without proper election.
