Prison Decongestion: Lagos CJ Reviews the Criteria for Compilation of Awaiting Trial Inmates

We told you earlier that with the approval of the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, the Bar and the public are requested to send in detailed particulars of inmates who committed minor offences and who have been in custody awaiting trial for over 3 years. Please read here

By a twitter notice, the Chief Judge has reduced the number of years of awaiting trial in respect of the above exercise from 3 years to 2 years.

Here is what she wrote:

It is hereby stated for general information that after due consideration of responses received in respect of the Public Notice on the over 3 years criteria for Awaiting Trial Inmates, Hon. Mr. Justice Opeyemi Oke has instructed that the Notice be reduced to 2 years.
