The Attorney General of Imo State Sir Ndukwe Nnawuchi SAN yesterday told members of FIDA Imo State Branch that Multi Door Court House will soon kick off in the State to promote Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
According to a report by Chinyere Iwunna, the Attorney General disclosed this when members of FIDA Imo paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Owerri. The AG was reported to have also hinted that Mrs. E . C Aguta of the Ministry of Justice has been appointed to lead the ADR team for the State.
He informed the group that the Multi Door Court House will be located at the building opposite the High Court complex Owerri.
Sir Nnawuchi noted that the establishment of the ADR house has become necessary given the skyrocketing number of cases pending in the courts across the State.
He expressed the belief that some of the disputes that precipitated the institution of some of the cases would be resolved through ADR.
The Attorney General also disclosed that all the Imo State laws from 1963 till date would be revised as the ADR building will also house the State Law Revision Commission.
He commended the FIDA Imo members for their activities in the areas of promotion and protection of women and children’s rights in the State and promised the support of the present administration in the State.
Earlier, the Chairperson of FIDA Imo State Branch, Mrs. Nkiru Okafor highlighted some of the programmes and activities of the organization.
She told the Attorney General that FIDA Imo has done many pro bono cases geared towards protecting rights of indigent women and children in the State.
She lamented that lack of funds has been the greatest challenge facing the organization and prayed the current administration to restore the State government’s subvention to the organization which was suspended by the immediate past administration.
