The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has warned members of the legal profession who use the NBA logo as their profile pictures on private whatsapp groups, facebook and other social media platforms to desist from such act.
In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the NBA, Mr. Kunle Edun, such groups were asked to remove the logo forthwith.
“The National Secretariat has for sometime now been inundated with complaints from members regarding the unauthorised use of the NBA logo by members on their private WhatsApp groups, Facebook and other social media platforms.
Complaints have also been received against members who open and operate Facebook accounts in the name of the Nigerian Bar Association or similar names.
The Nigerian Bar Association completely dissociates itself from comments and statements posted on such platforms and denies liability therefrom.
The NBA also advises members who use the NBA logo as the logos on their platforms to remove same, because same was done without the authority of the NBA.
The Nigerian Bar Association and its logo can only be used by the NBA President, authorised officers, Sections and fora under the NBA or as duly authorised by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association. The law on passing of and impersonation is clear on matters like this.
For the information of members, the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the NBA are managed by the National Assistant Publicity Secretary of the NBA, Akorede Habeeb Lawal.”
