The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Lagos Chapter and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikorodu Branch are partnering on a joint visit to Ikoyi Prison to offer free medical care and legal service to inmates. In addition to the above visit, the two professional bodies would also render free services to their respective members in a reciprocal manner.
The above collaboration was made known in a joint press briefing organized by the two professional bodies in Lagos today.
Speaking on the collaboration the Chairman of the NMA Lagos Branch Dr. Saliu Oseni expressed joy over the new collaboration which he said was made possible by the Chairman of NBA Ikorodu Branch.
In his words, “This press conference is to intimate the public and our members with the activities of the week long programme of the NMA Lagos AGM 2019.”
“This year’s activities coincide with the legal week of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikorodu Branch.”
“The two Associations have over the time tried to collaborate in rendering corporate social responsibilities (CSR)to the public and have decided to collaborate to render the little we can to alleviate the distress being experienced by prison inmates especially the predicament of these inmates with respect to health challenges and legal representation.”
“I hereby appreciate the Chairman of NBA Ikorodu branch, Barrister Adebayo Akinlade and his Executives for making this possible.”
“On day 4, we have a joint visit with the NBA Ikorodu branch to Ikoyi prison where we would render free medical services to the inmates, while our partner, the NBA, would grant them pro bono legal services. These will afford those who have been wrongly incarcerated the opportunity of listening hears and those who need medical attention to be taken care of.”
“On day 6 we have Free Health Care to members of NBA Ikorodu Branch, at their secretariat at Ikorodu.”

Confirming the collaboration, the Chairman of NBA Ikorodu Mr. Adebayo Akinlade stated “It gives me great pleasure to see a day like this when the NBA and the NMA will collaborate.”
“Aside from having a joint prison visit to Ikoyi prison, on Friday members of NMA will provide free medical care for lawyers while we provide them with free legal advice.”
According to him it is hoped that this new working relationship will impact on the welfare of members of the two associations as well as benefit the Less privileged.
