Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday, inaugurated his cabinet with the swearing in of 14 Commissioners earlier approved by the state House of Assembly. Amongst the newly sworn in cabinet is Prof Oyelowo Edward Oyewo who was sworn in as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the State.
Oyelowo Oyewo is a Professor of Public Law at the University of Lagos. A legal consultant with over 30 years’ experience in constitutional, administrative, environmental, business transactions, governance and development law. He has worked in several public and private institutions including the Federal Ministry of Justice; University of Lagos, Nigeria; Hatcher, Coaxum, Hewitt, Grimes, & Manning, Los Angeles, U.S.A.; Akinwumi, Oyewo & Co; and PAC Solicitors. Oyewo, is a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.
Oyewo is a professional trainer in banking law, secured credit transactions, international business transactions, and public procurement law. He has facilitated training programmes with H. Pierson and Centre for Law; Centre for Law and Development Studies; and Centre for Law and Business, among others. Oyewo has served as Chairman and Director on various boards including: Glanville Enthoven (Insurance Brokerage Company); Lafarge Wapco Cement (Nig.) Plc; Center for Law & Business and is currently leading the Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Team at PAC Solicitors’ Law Firm. He has also served as Consultant/Expert to several governmental bodies including; Committee of the House of Representatives on Reform of the 1999 Constitution, National Assembly; Nigerian Institute of Legislative Studies; Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); and Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Government; to mention a few.
Oyewo is a graduate of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University); University of Lagos; and University of California, Los Angeles, USA, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. Oyewo is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria. He was called and admitted to the Nigerian Bar Association in 1982, and the State Bar of California, USA, in 1991.
He is a member of the following professional Association; the Nigerian Bar Association; the State Bar of California, USA; International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL); International Society of Public Law (ICON.S); Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT); Bankruptcy and Insolvency Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN) and a FCIArb., Fellow Chartered Institute of Arbitration of Nigeria.
