Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma on Friday signed into law a bill repealing pensions, gratuities for former governors, former deputy governors, former speakers and deputy speakers.
The executive bill was presented by the Majority Leader of the House, Uche Ogbuagu and given accelerated hearing and subsequently passed into law by the the State House of Assembly on Thursday.
In an interview, the Majority Leader said the bill would go a long way in saving cost for the State.
According to him, the State loses about N1.3bn annually to offset the bills, a sum he described as humongous enough to pay workers’ salary.
He applauded the Governor, Hope Uzodinma for assenting to the bill, adding that Imo State will soon enjoy the benefits derivable from the law.
Uche Ogbuagu is the member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo House of Assembly.
