Covid-19: Ogun State Judiciary Cancels Annual Court Vacation

Ogun State Judiciary has issued a notice cancelling the 2020 Annual Court Vacation in the state.

In a letter to the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association  Ota Branch signed by the Deputy Chief Registrar (Legal) M.A Akinyemi, the  cancellation became necessary in view of the lockdown induced by Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

The letter reads in part:

“I have  the directive   of the Hon.  Chief  Judge to relate to you, that  in  view of the COVID-19   pandemic  induced  lockdown,  the Ogun State Judiciary will not be closing  for 2020 Court vacation,  rather  individual  Hon.  Judges  will be proceeding  on Annual Vacation  as approved  by the Hon.  Chief  Judge.”

Ogun State becomes the first state to announce the cancellation of the annual court vacation which usually holds between July to September in all courts of records in Nigeria.

It is expected that judiciaries of other states would follow suit.
