Dear Colleagues,
As part of efforts of the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association to deepen its engagement with the legal community and to ensure that the NBA works for its members, the NBA President, Mr. Olumide Akpata on Sunday 27th and Monday, 28th September 2020 held interactive sessions with Legal Practitioners in Delta State and also paid courtesy visits on some Bar leaders within the State.
In the first session held at the Effurun Branch of the Association, which coincided with the monthly meeting of the Branch, various issues affecting the Branch and its members were raised. The NBA President assured members of the Branch of his preparedness to work closely with them in order to achieve the objectives of the Association. He further promised that the welfare of legal practitioners will not be trivialised.
At the interactive session with the Warri Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association which also coincided with the monthly meeting of the Branch, the members presented some of the challenges facing the Branch and sought the intervention of the leadership of the NBA. The NBA President assured them of the commitment of the NBA to making the Bar work for its members and general public through consistent engagement and deliberate steps towards resolving the challenges.
At the interactive session with the Asaba Branch of the NBA, the President was hosted to a Luncheon by a member of the Asaba Branch, Mr. Chiedu Ebie. The Luncheon/Interactive Session had in attendance, the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor; the Chairman of the NBA Asaba Branch as well as his colleagues from Ogwashi-uku and Agbor; Mr. Chike Onyemenam, SAN; Mr. Ekeme Ohwovoriole, SAN; Mr. Thompson Anigara, LOAN Chairman, Delta State, Princess Pat Ajudua, Chief Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly and a host of legal practitioners.
After a number of Bar-related issues were raised during the session, the NBA President was urged to justify the confidence popularly reposed in him by members of the NBA by ensuring that the Association adds value to their professional lives irrespective of the segment of the profession they practice.
LUNCHEON WITH BAR LEADERS
At another Luncheon with Bar Leaders hosted by Chief T. J Okpoko, SAN, several issues affecting the Nigerian Bar Association was discussed and solutions proffered. The luncheon had in attendance the Chairmen of NBA Warri, Effurun and Udu Branches as well as other leaders of the Bar in these Branches including, but not limited to: H.E. Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, Charles Ajuyah, SAN, Ama Etuwewe, SAN, Ayo Asala, SAN, Patrick Oganwu, Chief V.E. Otomiewo and Chief Gweke Akudihor.
The NBA President thanked his hosts for the warm reception and restated the reason behind his visits to some of the Branches of the NBA, namely to interact with their members and to have a first hand knowledge of the peculiar issues faced by the branches. The group thanked the President for the visit and pledged the unalloyed support of all the Branches of the NBA in Delta State for the current NBA administration.
