NBA-AGC 2022: Election not about Religion, Tribe but Character, Competence ― Peter Obi

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has said that the 2023 election will not be about religion or tribe but about character and competence in leadership.

Peter Obi stated this on Monday in Lagos at the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference, NBA-AGC.

According to Obi, the country’s woes have gotten so bad that the 2023 election would not be about religion or tribe but about who has the character and competence to deliver the country from its current mess.

“Nigeria is in a mess. We got here simply because of the accumulative effect of bad leadership. The coming election is not about tribe or religion but about character and competence. We need a bold transition from a highly secured state to a highly secured state.”

Speaking of his plan for the economy, the former governor of Anambra State, said investment in intangible assets such as education and power are critical for economic renaissance.

“What we need to do is the two most intangible assets: security; and law and order . . . provide conducive environment to attract investors, then education and power . . . the economy is driven by these intangible assets,” he said at the opening ceremony  of the 2022 Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The conference with the theme ‘Bold Transitions’ began on Monday and will run until August 26.

Obi spoke on a panel alongside All Progressives Congress Vice-Presidential Candidate, Kashim Shettima; Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar; amongst others.
