57 Legal Practitioners Elevated to Rank of SAN by Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee

Date:

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), under the distinguished chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The announcement was made following the LPPC’s 169th Plenary Session held on July 24, 2025. The rank of SAN, a mark of professional excellence, is conferred upon legal practitioners who have exhibited exceptional distinction either in legal practice or academia, contributing significantly to the development of Nigerian legal scholarship.

During the session, the Committee also reviewed three petitions submitted against some applicants. However, after thorough consideration, all petitions were found lacking in merit and were subsequently dismissed.

In line with the directives of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all successful candidates are required to attend and successfully complete the mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme, which is a prerequisite for formal conferment of the rank.

The LPPC has also cautioned against the publication of congratulatory advertisements and goodwill messages in line with Paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023. Breaches may attract sanctions for ethical violations.

The Swearing-In Ceremony for the 57 new SANs is scheduled to hold on Monday, September 29, 2025.
