As part of the mandatory continuing legal education for all lawyers in Nigeria, FIDA Nigeria organized a capacity building workshop that held on the 4th – 5th August, 2017 for her members from the North Central, North East and North West zones at Bayelsa Guest house Abuja. This is a step-down training sequel to the train-the-trainers workshop that held a few weeks ago. The purpose of the training is ensure that branch members are carried along with improved knowledge, attitude, skills and modern methods in handling matters pertaining to violence against women and other gender related matters.
The presentations at the workshop include;
1 Discriminatory Laws and Practices against women in Nigeria by Maryam Ahmed Sabo(mni) (National Treasurer, FIDA Nigeria)
2 Legislative Advocacy – Domestication and Adoption of the VAPP Act & ACJ Act in the States by Rhoda Tyoden-Moore (National Secretary, FIDA Nigeria)
3 Violence Against Women (VAW); its dynamics and laws protecting women by Fatima Oiza Idris (Deputy National President, FIDA Nigeria).
4 Introduction to Gender as a concept; the dynamics and other related concepts by Rhoda Tyoden-Moore
The workshop was very interactive and educative, as most of the participants made useful contributions while sharing lessons from practical experiences from their various branches. At the end of the workshop, the participants were issued certificates of attendance.
