“Lack of Fund, Inherited High Debt Profile” Responsible for Non-Payment of Branch Due- AB Mahmoud SAN

Date:

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, Mr AB Mahmoud SAN has blamed his administration’s inability to pay monies due to  branches of the association on “Lack of funds and high debt profile” he inherited when he was elected the President of the association.

Mr Mahmoud disclosed this at the just concluded National Executive Committee NEC meeting of the Association at Uyo in Akwa ibom. Responding to concerns from Lagos Branch chairman, Chukwuka Ikwuazom and a motion from Owerri Branch Chairman, Lawrence Nwakaeti, the NBA President directed the Treasurer, Aisha Ado Abdullahi, to compile the list of branches with outstanding Practicing Fees dues for immediate payment. The NBA President also explained that the reasons the payments were outstanding is due to lack of funds and the high debt profile which the current administration inherited.

It would be recalled that the immediate past administration of the Association led by Austin Alegeh SAN was highly praised by the members of the Association at its 2016 Annual General meeting in Port Harcourt for leaving “unprecedented” hundreds of millions of Naira in the Association’s bank accounts while handing over to Mr Mahmoud’s administration.

Mr Mahmoud whose two years tenure is less than nine months to end, has never challenged or disputed the financial records handed over to him by his predecessor.
