NBPB Extends Deadline for Filing 2022 Data Protection Audit Report to June 30

Date:

The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) has extended the timeline for filing the 2022 data audit report from 15 March till 30 June 2023.

In a circular issued by the Bureau, it noted that the extension is to give opportunity to data controllers and  processors to be evaluated for inclusion on the National Data  Protection Adequacy Programme (NaDPAP) Whitelist.

Stakeholders are advised to endeavor to file within the stipulated period as there will be  no further extensions granted.

In 2019, the National Information Technology and Development Agency (‘NITDA’) issued the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (‘NDPR’). The NDPR requires that where an organisation processes the personal data of more than 2000 persons within a 12-month period, the Company must engage a Data Protection Compliance Organisation (DPCO) to audit its compliance with the NDPR for the 12-month period. Also, a report of the audit must be filed with NDBP, the government agency saddled with the responsibillity of ensuring compliance with the NDPR, by 15th March of the following year.

To appoint a DPCO for the purposes of filing Data Audit Report, please call 08020710511 or send an email to info@dnlpartners.com
