Prosecution Closes Case Against Man who Allegedly Burnt Wife, Brother-in-Law to Death

Date:

The case of the prosection in the  murder case involving the State of Lagos  v Ben Ogudoro was today closed and the charge adjourned for the Defence to open his case.

Mr. Ogundoro is charged with double murder of his wife Chinyere and brother in law Ifeanyi. The suit came up today before the Hon Justice Sonaike of the Lagos State High Court sitting at TBS.

The prosecution led by Dr Jide Martins, DPP closed the prosecution case with the testimony of the consultant pathologist as to the cause of the deaths of the victims.

Recall that in the course of the trial which commenced sometime in 2023, the state had alleged that the defendant poured petrol on the bodies of his wife and his brother-in-law, Ifeanyi, and the mattress and set them ablaze while asleep, which led to their death.

According to the prosecution, the offences committed contravened Sections 223 and 341, of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him and the trial commenced immediately.

Earlier on, the deceased’s sister concluded her testimony and was cross-examined.

She explained that her late brother told her what transpired before he died while she was with him at the hospital.

The second prosecution witness Stanley Ulasi, a former tenant of the defendant also narrated to the court how the two siblings were burnt to death.

The case has been adjourned to 15 April 2024 for the defence to open.
