Governor El-Rufai to Pay N50,000 Damages for Breach of Lawyer’s Right

A High Court sitting in Kaduna State has awarded damages in the sum of N50,000 against the Governor of Kaduna State Mallam Nasir El Rufai for breach of Fundamental Human Right of one  Barr. Gloria Ballasson.

Delivering the judgment today, Honourable Justice Esther Lolo held that the applicant has shown sufficient material to prove that her fundamental rights to life, liberty, thought and right to expression as provided under chapter four of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and African Charter of Human and peoples rights is likely to be breached by the respondent, consequently, the court restrained the respondent, Governor of Kaduna state and its agents from arresting, prosecuting and jailing the applicant.

Barr. Gloria Ballason who is the chief executive officer of House of Justice and principal partner of Mive Legals had filed a case against the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El­ Rufai  for the Enforcement of her Fundamental Human Rights .

The lawyer sued the Governor who had threatened to arrest and prosecute her for her Civil Rights activities including an article which was published in the Blueprint Newspaper of 28th November, 2016. The planned arrest of Bar. Gloria was announced by the Governor when The President of the NBA Mr A.B. Mahmud SAN and his team visited Kaduna State Government House.
