Governor Umo Eno Flags Off Construction of Akwa Ibom State Judiciary Village

Date:

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially flagged off the construction of the State Judiciary Village. The project, located along Idongesit Nkanga Avenue (Ring Road III) in Uyo, is designed to provide judicial officers with convenient and secure accommodation to support their constitutional responsibilities.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Governor Eno emphasized that the Judiciary Village is a direct product of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance. He acknowledged the pivotal role the judiciary plays in ensuring order, justice, and the development of society.

“This village speaks to our faith in inclusive governance. The Judiciary plays a critical role in advancing the development of our people and our dear State,” the Governor stated.

He noted the strong and collaborative relationship between the Executive and Judiciary under his leadership, stressing that while the principle of separation of powers remains respected, the shared goal of progress and unity binds all arms of government together.

“For the past two years, we’ve maintained a robust relationship with the Judiciary, as we strive to deliver the dividends of democracy through our ARISE Agenda,” he said. “Though we respect the doctrine of separation of powers, we share a common vision for peace, prosperity, and inclusive governance.”

Governor Eno explained that the Judiciary Village is part of a broader initiative to ensure that key government functionaries operate from environments that enhance their effectiveness. He revealed that the housing initiative for judicial officers mirrors similar efforts for other arms of government.

“Two days ago, we commissioned the first of the 31 residences for Local Government Chairmen, starting with Eket. Work will now proceed in the remaining 30 LGAs,” he noted. “For Chairmen to serve effectively, they must live among their people. You can’t lead a community from outside of it.”

He further announced upcoming housing projects for members of the State Executive Council and the State Legislature, reaffirming his administration’s holistic commitment to the welfare of all stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom Project.

Turning his attention to youth empowerment, the Governor urged young people across the State to take advantage of the numerous job opportunities emerging from the government’s ambitious building projects, including the Medical Village, Aviation Village, Judiciary Village, Arise Resort, and the International Convention Centre and Hotels.

“Apply and be part of these projects. Let our youths be responsible and productive. We are creating these opportunities for you to grow and succeed,” he advised.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to support hardworking and enterprising youths through grants, skills acquisition programs, and equipment support, and warned against any attempts to disrupt the peace in the guise of group activism.

“This government will not tolerate actions that threaten the peace of our State. We are here to work and to support all who are willing to work,” the Governor said.

He also cautioned residents against encroaching on government lands or building without proper approvals, stating that illegal structures on such lands or waterways would be demolished without compensation.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udoh, expressed gratitude to the Governor for recognizing the Judiciary’s vital role in democracy and for including them in his administration’s developmental agenda.

Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Justice Ekaette Obot, speaking on behalf of the Judiciary, commended Governor Eno’s visionary leadership and unwavering support. She described him as a “promise keeper” and thanked him for prioritizing the welfare of judicial officers.

“We are deeply appreciative of this gesture. Your vision will significantly enhance our productivity and well-being,” she said, while also thanking the host community, Ifa Ikot Okpon, for donating the land for the project.

The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, political leaders, business leaders, and a cross-section of the public.
