Court Orders Arrest of Lagos-Based Businessman Over Alleged ₦1.2 Billion Fraud

Date:

Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest of Nigerian businessman Rolland Oluwasegun Elusoji over his alleged role in a ₦1.2 billion fraud scheme.

The arrest warrant, issued in a document marked Form E, was signed by the judge on February 18, 2026, after a request from the prosecution. The order directs the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to apprehend Elusoji wherever he is found and bring him before the court.

Elusoji had been scheduled to appear in court on February 18, 2026, to enter a plea regarding charges that include conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, and money laundering involving about ₦1.207 billion.

The case was filed by officers from the Police Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, Lagos, under suit number FHC/L/583C/2025.

According to the charges, Elusoji allegedly committed the offences alongside two other suspects—Oladejo Funmilayo Grace and Abiola Oluwasegun—who are currently at large. The alleged crimes reportedly took place on November 30, 2024, in Lagos.

Prosecutors claim that the suspects fraudulently obtained the money from Otunba Seye Famojuro by falsely promising to use the funds to purchase a luxury vehicle and real estate on his behalf.

The prosecution, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Achi Caleb, informed the court that the offences violate provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006 as well as the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The court also heard that Elusoji had been served with the charges through his email and phone contact, and through his lawyer following a court order issued in November 2025. Despite this, he reportedly failed to appear in court to take his plea.

One of the charges alleges that Elusoji and his co-defendants conspired to obtain approximately ₦1.207 billion from Famojuro by falsely claiming the money would be used to acquire a vehicle and property.

Another charge claims that the defendants fraudulently collected ₦270 million from the complainant under the pretext of purchasing a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 on his behalf, despite allegedly knowing that the claim was false.

Prosecutors also alleged that the suspects knowingly handled and controlled the funds, which are believed to be proceeds of illegal activities, thereby violating provisions of the money laundering law.

Following the proceedings, Justice Owoeye adjourned the case to May 25, 2026, when the defendant is expected to be arraigned before the court.
