The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ihiala Branch, has condemned the alleged harassment, public humiliation and circulation of unverified claims against Mrs. Sussana Ezekopube Ohazulike by a group identified as ‘Agba Ezenwanyi’ in Umuosobe Uzoakwa, Ihiala, Anambra State.
The branch, through its Human Rights Committee, described the alleged treatment of the woman and the accompanying media campaign as unlawful, degrading and contrary to the constitutional protection of human dignity.
In a statement dated October 25, 2026, and signed by the Vice Chairman of the NBA Ihiala Branch and Chairman of its Human Rights Committee, Chief D. R. Igboamauchey, Esq., the association condemned what it characterised as extrajudicial harassment and jungle justice. The committee said no individual, vigilante group or community organisation had the legal authority to interrogate a person, determine guilt or impose punishment outside established judicial procedures.
It maintained that the alleged actions against Ohazulike amounted to an unlawful trial by ordeal and a violation of the fundamental right to human dignity guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The branch also rejected what it described as the imposition of criminal responsibility on Ohazulike over unproven allegations concerning the conduct of her adult son.

PUBLIC STATEMENT CONDEMNING THE EXTRAJUDICIAL HARASSMENT, JUNGLE JUSTICE, CYBERSTALKING, AND DEFAMATION OF MRS. SUSSANA EZEKOPUBE OHAZULIKE
The Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ihiala Branch, unequivocally condemns the degrading, unlawful, and extrajudicial treatment meted out to Mrs. Sussana Ezekopube Ohazulike by a group identifying as ‘Agba Ezenwanyi’ in Umuosobe Uzoakwa, Ihiala, as well as the sensationalized media campaign surrounding it.
Following a review of the viral recordings and reports, as the Chairman, I issue the following statement:
1. Condemnation of Mob Action and Jungle Justice: Under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, no individual, vigilante group, or community body possesses the legal authority to interrogate, adjudicate guilt, or inflict punishment outside established judicial procedures. The actions of ‘Agba Ezenwanyi’ and participating community members constitute an illegal trial by ordeal and a direct violation of the fundamental right to human dignity guaranteed by the Constitution.
- Rejection of Vicarious Criminal Liability: Under Nigerian criminal jurisprudence, criminal responsibility is strictly personal. Targeting, harassing, and publicly humiliating Mrs. Ohazulike over unproven allegations concerning the conduct of her adult son is a severe illegality. Neither the Constitution nor our statutory laws permit a parent to be held criminally liable, detained, or punished for the independent actions of an adult child. Furthermore, a dependent parent whose very survival relies entirely on her adult child may lack the practical capacity or leverage to confront that child, lest she be exposed to severe neglect and starvation. Expecting a vulnerable parent to police or challenge an adult provider is both legally absurd and morally unreasonable.Find Counseling

Rejection of Staged Media Manipulation and Cyberstalking: The circulating narrative relies entirely on unverified hearsay, lacking any official police investigation report, formal statement from the victim or suspect, or credible direct eyewitness evidence. Media coverage fraught with contradictory claims of physical harm, combined with leading, coercive, and prejudicial interrogations, amounts to cyberstalking, criminal defamation, and malicious public incitement.
-
Call to the Public: We urge members of the public, traditional authorities, and media operators to immediately cease all extrajudicial mob actions, trial by public opinion, and the dissemination of unverified claims. Customary practices and community traditions must fully conform to the Rule of Law and constitutional protections.
Signed:

Chairman, Human Rights Committee of NBA Ihiala
