Aluko & Oyebode Announces Leadership Transition as Kofo Dosekun Steps Down, Olubunmi Fayokun Appointed Chairman

Date:

Aluko & Oyebode, Nigeria’s leading full-service law firm, has announced major leadership changes as part of its ongoing commitment to excellence, innovation, and succession planning. The transition marks a new chapter for the firm, widely recognised for its market-defining legal practice and deep reservoir of talent.

After four impactful years as Chairman, Kofo Dosekun, the firm’s first female Chairman, has stepped down from the role. A trailblazer in Corporate and Commercial law, Kofo has been instrumental in building and leading the firm’s Corporate Commercial and Banking & Finance Practice Groups. Under her leadership, Aluko & Oyebode cemented its reputation for diversity, strategic vision, and high-calibre client service. She will now assume the role of Of Counsel, working alongside Founding Partner Gbenga Oyebode.

“It has been an honour to help shape the growth of Aluko & Oyebode and contribute to the firm’s standing as Nigeria’s leading law firm,” Kofo said. “I look forward to supporting the new leadership team as they take the firm to even greater heights.”

Succeeding her as Chairman is Olubunmi Fayokun, a distinguished Senior Partner with over 40 years of experience advising top-tier domestic and international clients. A recognised leader in Corporate Commercial Law, Capital Markets, and Financial Services, Olubunmi is listed in both The Legal 500 Hall of Fame and the IFLR1000 Women Dealmakers Hall of Fame. She has led several landmark transactions, including Nigeria’s first Additional Tier 1 Eurobond, the demutualisation of The Nigerian Stock Exchange, and Diageo Plc’s divestment from Guinness Nigeria Plc.

“I am excited to take on this role at such a pivotal moment in the firm’s history,” said Olubunmi. “With a strong legacy behind us and an even stronger team ahead, we are shaping the future of legal practice in Nigeria.”

As part of the leadership transition, Reginald Udom will step down as Co-Managing Partner effective 1 September 2025. Reginald, who served two successful terms in the role, played a vital part in deepening the firm’s international footprint and strengthening its global rankings. He will continue to serve in a strategic leadership role on the firm’s Board.

Taking over from Reginald is Adeolu Idowu, a seasoned lawyer with nearly three decades of experience across private wealth, energy, telecommunications, ESG, and data protection. Adeolu will join Joke Aliu as Co-Managing Partner. Together, they bring a strong combination of legal acumen and sector-specific expertise, poised to lead the firm into its next era of strategic growth.

“These appointments reflect our values of meritocracy, strategic foresight, and internal leadership development,” said Founding Partner Gbenga Oyebode. “With Olubunmi, Adeolu, and Joke at the helm, Aluko & Oyebode is well-positioned to lead the future of legal practice in Nigeria and across borders.”
