The process for the appointment of eight new judges to the Federal High Court has officially commenced, following approval by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Honourable Justice Kudirat M. O. Kekere-Ekun, GCON.
According to a letter dated 13th May 2025, issued by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, the NJC is set to consider candidates for appointment to the bench of the Federal High Court from eight specified states.
These states include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara.
In adherence to the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, Hon. Justice Tsoho has invited the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, along with the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, to nominate suitably qualified candidates for consideration.
The nominations are expected to reach the Chief Judge’s chambers no later than June 26, 2025.
This development marks another important step in bolstering the capacity of the Federal High Court, ensuring better access to justice and improved case management across the country.
