Canada Police Arrest Nigerian Tech Recruiter Over Alleged Human Trafficking, Sex Offences

A Canada-based Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, 33, has been arrested and charged with multiple offences, including alleged human trafficking and sex-related crimes, according to the Hamilton Police Service.

Tomiwa, who is also known by the nickname “Boon,” was taken into custody after voluntarily surrendering to police hours after authorities declared him wanted.

Hamilton Police said in a statement that Tomiwa turned himself in and is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing.

“Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself in earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing,” the police said.

According to the police, Tomiwa, who identifies himself as a tech recruiter with TEKsystems on his LinkedIn profile, faces four charges.

Police identified the allegations as trafficking in persons, procuring for sexual services, material benefit from trafficking of persons, and withholding documents.

“Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, 33 years old, of Belleville was arrested for the following charges; Trafficking in Persons, Procuring for Sexual Services, Material Benefit – Trafficking of Persons and Withholding Documents,” authorities said.

Investigators said they believe there could be additional victims linked to the case and urged anyone with relevant information or anyone who believes they may have been victimised to contact investigators.

“Investigators believe there may be additional victims and encouraged anyone who may have information, or who believes they may have been victimized, to come forward and speak with investigators,” police added.

Tomiwa is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing as the investigation continues.
