HomeCourt grants Wada-Faskari N20,000 bail for alleged embezzlement of IDPs fund

Court grants Wada-Faskari N20,000 bail for alleged embezzlement of IDPs fund

Date:

A Faskari Senior Magistrates’ Court in Katsina on Friday admitted Bishir Wada-Faskari to bail in the sum of N20,000 for allegedly embezzling N10 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) funds. Wada-Faskari was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating, which he pleaded not guilty.

The Senior Magistrate, Malam Isah Ibrahim, ordered Wada-Faskari to provide two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till Oct. 6 for hearing.

The N10 million was donated to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Katsina by Alhaji Umar Tata, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in the state in the 2015 general election.

Tata, who brought the action through direct criminal complaint against Wada-faskari said he donated the money to cater for children orphaned by cattle rustlers attack on communities in Faskari and Sabuwa Local Government Areas in 2014 which claimed 116 lives and about 900 families displaced. Tata’s counsel, Mr Mas’ud Alebelewe, had told the court on Aug. 11, that Wada-Faskari allegedly converted the N10 million to his personal use. Alebelewe said that the accused was entrusted with the money in March 2014 to administer for the education of orphans of those killed in the attack. He said the accused failed to do so and all efforts to retrieve the money had failed.
