The President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem and her Brother Justices have resumed from their vacation hitting the ground running with special court sittings.
Commencing the special sitting on Monday at the Abuja Division of the Court, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem welcomed Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and esteemed Learned Counsel, to the first official sitting of the Court after resuming from their vacation.
Noting that the Court has set up 11 panels of Justices to sit in various Divisions, His Lordship urged SANs and Learned Counsel to take advantage of the special sitting and help save the time and resources of the Court by doing their due diligence to ensure that the Court achieve its aim of clearing backlog of cases.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues in Court, Damian D. Dodo SAN wished the Justices of the Court of Appeal a great new legal year as the Court has already started working before the yearly ceremony. He noted that the great pleasure of having the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem sitting in Court avails Learned Counsels an opportunity perhaps for the first time.
Believing he is speaking the mind of his colleagues both in and out of Court, Damian Dodo SAN commended the great initiative of the President of the Court of Appeal since she assumed office. Noting that she has taken the responsibility of expediting matters in the Court of Appeal by constantly constituting panels to sit in different Divisions.
He added that the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem also participates in many of these panels and leading the Court.
This he said, has helped decongest the Court vehemently and can only pray that the Almighty God will continue to bless the President of the Court of Appeal with wisdom and the courage to do that which is right and at all times, to expedite the due administration of justice.
The special court sitting at the Abuja Division of the Court was led by the President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem alongside Hon. Justice A.I. Banjoko and Hon. Justice A.B. Mohammed.
