Court Remands Pastor for Allegedly ‘Raping, Impregnating’ Minor in Ondo

Date:

A magistrate court in Akure, Ondo state capital, has remanded Oluwasegun Victor, a pastor of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

The 31-year-old cleric was said to have raped the minor on July 24 in the Oba-Ile area of the state.

Victor is also accused of impregnating five other young ladies.

He was charged to court by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on a one-count charge of “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor”.

David Ebriku, the prosecutor, told the court that the offence contravened section 31(1) of the Child Rights Law of Ondo state 2007, which is punishable under section 31(2) of the law.

Ebriku urged the court to remand the cleric in a correctional centre.

Taiwo Lebi, the presiding magistrate, ordered that the suspect be kept in the correctional centre.

The case was adjourned to September 19 for the hearing of the bail application.

In December 2021, another pastor was arrested for allegedly raping a pregnant woman during deliverance in his church in the state.
