Following the Central Bank (CBN)’s approval of the launch of open banking, the Data Privacy Lawyers Association of Nigeria (DPLAN) will be hosting a webinar titled “CBN’s Open Banking Framework: Privacy Matters Arising,”
The webinar is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM and will examine the far-reaching privacy implications of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Open Banking initiative.
The interactive session will feature insights from a panel of distinguished privacy professionals: Olamiji Ogun (Legal Consultant), Thelma Oshone Okorie (Data Protection Officer at Yellowcard), and Omoruyi Edoigiawerie, (Start-up and Data Privacy Professional) and will be moderated by Dr. Pretty Tega Edema, the Director of Education and Training at DPLAN.
With the CBN’s approval of the launch, Nigeria becomes the first African country to implement open banking, four years after the Central Bank of Nigeria first released its regulatory framework for the initiative. The open banking will allow banks to begin sharing customer data with other financial institutions starting in August 2025.
