Edo Gov. Okpebholo Swears in 3 Judges Previously Excluded by Obaseki

Date:

Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in three State High Court judges who were previously excluded from the swearing-in ceremony with eight of their colleagues cleared by the National Judicial Council in June 2023 by the former governor, Godwin Obaseki.

While swearing in the judges at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo emphasized that no one should be denied career advancement or professional elevation due to political or selfish interests.

In just three weeks since assuming office, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has resolved the controversy surrounding the failure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki to swear in three State High Court Judge-designates.

The three judges were among the eight candidates cleared and recommended for appointment by the National Judicial Council in June 2023. However, due to an alleged petition against them, they were excluded from the swearing-in process in May 2024 under the Obaseki administration.

Governor Okpebholo took action to resolve this by formally swearing in the three judges.

The newly sworn-in judges are Ojo Maureen Osa, Godwin Jeff Okundamiya, and Edoghogho Eboigbe. They expressed their gratitude to God and to the governor.

The event was attended by family members, friends, and members of the legal profession.
