The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin has apprehended Osagie Destiny Etinosa for allegedly defrauding a footballer of N11 million. Etinosa reportedly promised to secure trials for the victim at foreign football clubs, a promise that never materialized.
According to a Wednesday statement by the anti-graft agency, Etinosa presents himself as a football agent on Instagram, claiming expertise in connecting players with international clubs for trials and recruitment. His arrest came through open-source intelligence.
The victim, Samuel Beke Ohazuruike, reportedly lost N11 million after Etinosa’s assurances of trials in Romanian and Bulgarian clubs failed. Efforts by the victim to recover the money were unsuccessful. EFCC confirmed that Etinosa will soon be arraigned in court.
In a separate case in Borno, EFCC also arrested Fatima Muhammed for allegedly defacing Naira notes. The arrest followed a viral TikTok video showing her cleaning nasal mucus with an N500 note. She was traced and apprehended in Maiduguri and is currently under investigation at the EFCC detention facility.
