#EndBadGovernance: Court Strikes Out Suit against Protesters

Date:

A Federal High Court on Thursday struck out a suit filed against the #EndBadGovernance protesters for lack of diligent prosecution.

The judge expressed surprise that none of the plaintiffs or their representatives appeared for the hearing.

The suit, filed by 17 Nigerians from the six geopolitical zones, alleged that the protests infringed on their fundamental rights to freedom of movement, human dignity, right to own property, economic, social, and cultural development, and right to national peace and security.

The plaintiffs had sought a court order compelling the Department of State Services (DSS), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chiefs of Army and Defence Staff, and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to enforce their fundamental rights by stopping the protests.

However, Justice Lifu’s striking out of the suit effectively ends the legal challenge to the protests.
