The Judicial Service Committee of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has shortlisted 20 candidates for consideration for appointment as Judges of the High Court of the FCT, Abuja.
The development was contained in a letter dated September 24, 2026, issued by the Office of the Secretary of the Judicial Service Committee of the FCT and addressed to the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Bwari Branch, Abuja.
The letter, titled “Appointment of Ten (10) Judges of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” stated that the shortlisted candidates were forwarded pursuant to Rule 3(4)(iii) of the 2023 Revised National Judicial Council Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the Appointment of Judicial Officers of All Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria.
The Judicial Service Committee requested the NBA Bwari Branch to submit its comments on the suitability or otherwise of the candidates. The comments are expected to reach the Committee on or before October 14, 2026.
The 20 candidates shortlisted are drawn from eight states and include:
- Abia: Uguru Eme Uguru, Victor Ukagwu, Ubani Tony Chukwuemeka and Okezie-Okafor, Ekenma.
- Akwa Ibom: Akpabio Usuk-Uma Michael and Catherine Henry Cyril.
- Borno: Fatima Ibrahim Bukar and Ibrahim Tijjani Monguno.
- Ebonyi: Daniel Chidike Nwuzor, Agwuama Ndubuisi Ude, Eze Emmanuel Eze and Juliet Uchenna Njoku.
- Lagos: Akanni Idayat Olaide and Ganiyu Owoyemi Tiamyu.
- Katsina: Sani Lawal and Mustapha Ahmed.
- Osun: Omolola Tolulope Akindele and Olatunji Ige Oladunmoye.
- Sokoto: Anas Aliyu Abbas and Abubakar Sa’idu Umar.
The Committee’s request forms part of the consultation process preceding the appointment of judicial officers to the High Court of the FCT. The letter specifically seeks professional comments from the NBA on the suitability of the shortlisted candidates before the appointment process progresses.
