Federal High Court 2024 Easter Vacation Begins March 22

Date:

Judges of the Federal High Court across the divisions all over the country are to proceed on the 2024 Easter Vacation from March 22.

A circular signed by the Chief Judge of the Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, indicated that the Easter holiday would last until Monday, April 8.

The judges would, however, resume their judicial work in their respective judicial divisions on Tuesday, April 9.

The grant of the Easter vacation is under the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (b) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended).

During the vacation period, the Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt judicial divisions will remain open to the public only for cases of extreme urgency.

The circular reads in part: “It is essential to stress that during the vacation, only matters relating to the enforcement of fundamental rights, arrest or release of vessels and matters that concern dire national interest are to be entertained by vacation judges.

“The Abuja judicial division will cater for cases from the Federal Capital Territory, North Central, North Western, and North Eastern parts of the country.

“The Lagos division will cater for cases from all the South Western States, while the Port Harcourt judicial division will cater for cases from all states within the South-South and South Eastern geo-political zones.”

Those to serve as vacation judges for the Abuja judicial division are Hon. Justices Inyang Edem Ekwo and Donatus Okorowo.

The Lagos division has Justices A.O. Awogboro and Ibrahim Kala, while the Port Harcourt division has Justice A.T. Mohammed and Justice S.I. Mark as vacation judges.

The circular advised judges and heads of divisions to promptly refer to the Chief Judge all matters that they believe may require his urgent attention and directives.
