The Federal High Court of Nigeria has set its 2026 Easter vacation period.
In a circular dated February 27th, 2026, issued by Chief Judge John T. Tsoho, the court will be on break from April 7, 2026, to April 13, 2026, with normal sittings resuming on Tuesday, April 14. This schedule supersedes any previously circulated dates. “Pursuant to the provisions of Order 46 Rule 4(c) of the Federal High Court (Civil) Procedure Rules, 2019, the Federal High Court will proceed on its Easter Vacation for the Year 2026 from Tuesday., 7th April, 2026 to Monday, 13th April, 2026. The Court shall resume siting on Tuesdcy, 14th April, 2026.”
During the vacation week, only the core judicial divisions will remain open to the public. The circular emphasized that only urgent matters specifically enforcement of fundamental rights, the arrest or release of vessels, and issues of national importance will be heard by vacation judges. Routine cases are deferred until the court reconvenes after Easter.
The judges assigned to handle vacation business for each division are as follows:
Abuja Division: Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite; Hon. Justice Musa S. Liman.
Lagos Division: Hon. Justice Akintayo Aluko; Hon. Justice Ogazi F. Nkemakonam.
Port Harcourt Division: Hon. Justice Phoebe M. Ayua; Hon. Justice Adamu T. Mohammed.
Enugu Division: Hon. Justice Mabel T. Segun-Bello.
The CJ highlighted that these Easter vacation dates “supersede any dates derived from or supplied elsewhere,” advising all judges and lawyers to take note of the official schedule.
Tsoho used the occasion to extend warm Easter greetings to his colleagues. He wrote, “I use this opportunity to wish Your Lordships Happy Easter Celebrations/Vacation, well in advance.”
