Federal High Court, Lagos Division Commences Historic Relocation to New Permanent Court Complex

Date:

The Federal High Court of Nigeria has commenced the phased relocation of the Lagos Division to its newly completed permanent court complex, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of the federal judiciary and the administration of justice in Nigeria.
In a public notice issued by the Court’s Management, legal practitioners and the general public were informed that the relocation would be carried out in phases, beginning with the Vacation Courts, which commenced sittings at the new complex on Monday, 3 August 2026.
The Management explained that the phased approach is intended to ensure a seamless transition while maintaining uninterrupted judicial services as the various courts and registries gradually move into the new facility.
To ease the transition for members of the Bar, the Court has approved a one-month free parking concession for legal practitioners from 31 July to 31 August 2026. At the expiration of the concession, all users of the Court’s parking facilities will be required to pay the prescribed parking fees.
A Landmark Judicial Infrastructure
Located on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, the new Federal High Court Complex represents one of the most ambitious judicial infrastructure projects undertaken by the Federal Government in recent years. Conceived to address the growing demands of Nigeria’s busiest Federal High Court Division, the purpose-built facility replaces the ageing court infrastructure that had served the Lagos Division for decades.
The modern judicial complex has been designed to provide a more efficient, secure and technologically advanced environment for the administration of justice. It features spacious courtrooms, modern judges’ chambers, improved registry facilities, enhanced security architecture, better parking arrangements and improved accessibility for lawyers, litigants and members of the public.
The relocation also aligns with the Federal High Court’s broader efforts to modernise judicial administration through technology-driven reforms, including the gradual expansion of electronic filing and other digital case management initiatives.
Improving Access to Justice
As the commercial hub of Nigeria, Lagos records the highest volume of matters before the Federal High Court, including commercial disputes, maritime claims, intellectual property matters, banking and finance cases, taxation, admiralty, immigration, election petitions and other federal causes. The new complex is expected to significantly improve the Court’s capacity to manage its growing caseload while providing a more conducive environment for judicial officers, court staff and court users.
The phased relocation is expected to continue over the coming weeks as additional courts, registries and administrative units move into the new facility.
In its notice, the Court’s Management expressed appreciation to legal practitioners and the general public for their understanding, cooperation and continued support during the transition, describing the relocation as an important step towards a more modern, efficient and accessible Federal High Court in Lagos.
The opening of the new permanent complex marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Lagos Division, reinforcing the judiciary’s commitment to strengthening the administration of justice through improved infrastructure and enhanced service delivery.
