“I Am Back, Stronger…” Inibehe Effiong Declares as He Regains Freedom [Video]

Lagos Lawyer and Human Right activist, Inibehe Effiong who was committed to one month in prison for contempt by the Honourable Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State Justice Ekaette Obot has been released from custody.

In the short clip below, Inibehe is seen exiting the custodial facility in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State accompanied by few persons after serving out his one month term in prison custody.

He also shared a tweet where said:

I am back, stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression and to continue to speak nothing but the hard truth to the faces of the oppressors of our people. I feel sorry for those who thought they can break my spirit by incarcerating me.

Recall that on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 Inibehe was sent to one month imprisonment for contempt in facia curia while he was conducting a matter before the Hon. Justice Obot.

The committal generated a lot of heated divergence opinion from commentators and the general public alike. While the human right community were miffed by the manner in which the CJ handed down the contempt committal, many in some quarters felt the punishment was deserving in view of the perceived disrespect of the court by Inibehe.

The NBA’s attempt to release Inibehe was also unsuccessful. NEC has since given the executives of the Association a go ahead to petition the CJ to the NJC.

Meanwhile, Inibehe has since appealed the contempt committal.
