Justice Agya Sworn In as Chief Judge of Taraba State

Hon Justice Filibus Joel Agya has been sworn in as the  Substantive Chief Judge of Taraba State.

The new Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Agya and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal of Taraba State Justice Alfred Yakubu were sworn-in earlier today at the State House Exco Chambers. This followed the approval of the appointments of Justice Filibus Joel Agya as substantive Chief Judge of Taraba State and Justice Alfred Yakubu as President of the Customary Court of Appeal of Taraba State, on the 6th of December, 2023 by the National Judicial Council.

After the swearing in ceremony, Governor Agbu Kefas congratulated the newly sworn-in Chief Judge and President of the Customary Court of Appeal, emphasizing the merit-based nature of their appointments. He urged them to uphold justice, maintain impartiality in their duties, and strive for transformative initiatives within the judiciary. The Governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to promoting the rule of law in the state.
In response, Chief Judge Justice Filibus Joel Agya expressed gratitude to the Governor for deeming them worthy of their positions. He pledged to execute their responsibilities with integrity and a profound sense of duty, ensuring an independent judiciary free from external influence. Justice Agya commended Governor Agbu Kefas for the positive impact his administration has already made in the judiciary.
Notably, Justice Agya, in line with National Judicial Council guidelines, disclosed the submission of memoranda for the appointment of additional judges and officials across various courts. He advocated for the establishment of three more high court zones in Bali, Karim Lamido, and Zing, supplementing the existing ones in Gembu, Takum, and Wukari. Furthermore, the Chief Judge highlighted plans to introduce ICT facilities at the state High Court, aiming to digitize activities for improved efficiency and adherence to best practices.
The ceremony drew attendance from members of the state executive council, judicial officers, and family members of those sworn in.
