Lagos-Based Lawyer Sues Air Peace Over Flight Delays and Rescheduling

Date:

A Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, Chukwudi Nneke, has instituted a suit against Air Peace Limited at the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged repeated flight delays and rescheduling, which he claims caused him substantial financial losses and disrupted his business engagements.

The suit, filed as Suit No. FHC/LAG/CS/1345/2026, arose from the plaintiff’s travel arrangements with the airline for a return journey from Lagos to Owerri and back. Mr. Nneke had booked a return flight with Air Peace to travel from Lagos to Owerri on 2 September 2026 and return to Lagos on 4 September 2026.

According to the Plaintiff, his outbound flight, originally scheduled for 2:05 p.m. on 2 September 2026, was rescheduled to about 6:00 p.m. Despite the rescheduling, he alleged that passengers were kept waiting for several hours before they were eventually airlifted a few minutes after 10:00 p.m.

The Plaintiff further alleged that a similar situation occurred on his return journey. According to him, his return flight, scheduled for 3:55 p.m. on 4 September 2026, was also rescheduled, with the flight eventually departing at about 10:00 p.m.

Mr. Nneke contends that the repeated delays and rescheduling substantially disrupted his time-sensitive business engagements and resulted in the loss of valuable business opportunities both during his trip to Owerri and upon his return to Lagos. He alleges that the disruption also exposed him to additional expenses, including transportation, hotel accommodation and feeding costs, which he says were incurred as a consequence of the delays.

Consequently, the Plaintiff is seeking, among other reliefs, N50 million in damages for the alleged financial losses, inconvenience and disruption arising from the Defendant’s conduct.Court Case Summaries

He is also seeking reimbursement of expenses allegedly incurred as a result of the delays, including additional transportation, accommodation and feeding expenses.

Through the suit, the Plaintiff seeks to hold the airline legally accountable for what he describes as the disruption of his travel plans and the consequential financial losses arising from the alleged delays and rescheduling. The allegations contained in the suit remain subject to determination by the Federal High Court.
