Lagos High Court Judge, Oke-Lawal (Rtd) Passes Away

Justice Beatrice Adesuwa Oke-Lawal, a retired judge of the High Court of Lagos State, has passed away. The retired jurist, who left the bench on 19th October 2022, died on Monday, 28th October 2024.

In tribute to Justice Oke-Lawal’s years of service, some Lagos courts paused proceedings last Tuesday, with notices explaining the temporary closure. One notice read, “It is with deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Hon. Justice Oke-Lawal (retired). In light of the above, the court is unable to attend to all outstanding matters previously listed for last week.”

Justice Oke-Lawal’s passing has drawn condolences from the judiciary and government officials alike. Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Government, described her death as “a sad and shocking loss.” He praised her legacy of mentorship and dedication, noting, “Her impact on the judiciary will be felt for years to come.”

Oyekunle extended his condolences to her husband, Chief Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and their family, offering prayers for comfort and strength during this difficult time.

Justice Oke-Lawal will be remembered for her profound contributions to the judiciary and her lasting influence as a mentor and leader.
