LG Election: Court Bars KANSIEC from Imposing N10m, N5m Fees on Candidates

Date:

A Federal High Court has restrained the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from imposing N10m and N5m fees on chairmanship and councillorship candidates, respectively, in the upcoming local government elections.

KANSIEC had fixed N10m for chairmanship contestants and N5m for councillorship candidates in the October 26, 2024, polls.

But in latest development, Justice Nwite granted an order restraining KANSIEC from charging or imposing the fees on contestants.

The court’s decision may affect KANSIEC’s revenue generation for the elections.

The commission had earlier scheduled the polls for November 30, but reversed it to October 26th, 2024.
