The Nigerian Bar Association Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) will hold a 4-day training on Data Protection, starting on the 23rd of October and ending on the 26th of October 2023.
The training is of moment because the recent presidential assent to the Nigeria Data Protection Act has further emphasised the importance of privacy and data protection for Nigerian businesses and legal practitioners.
The Act which came into force in June 2023 should interest lawyers for three major reasons. First, the Act, by its objectives, gives further effect to the fundamental right of privacy and other rights and freedoms. Secondly, it prescribes additional regulatory obligations for businesses and their vendors. Thirdly, the Act creates a new practice area for lawyers to wit: provision of data protection audit compliance and post-audit remedial services.
Ultimately, as data controllers, Law Firms ought to acquaint themselves with their data protection obligations as employers, service providers, and legal advisors, hence the reason for this training.
The training would be facilitated by the following:
Justice Ibironke Harrison
Uche Val Obi SAN
Prof Adedeji Adekunle SAN
Kayode Enitan SAN
Jumoke Lambo, Hadiza Doganbana
Babatunde Bamigboye
