NBA Gombe Branch Urges Reversal of Governor Yahaya’s Executive Order on Land Use, Calls for Improved Welfare for Judicial Officers

Date:

The Nigerian Bar Association Gombe Branch has faulted Governor Muhammadu Yahaya’s Executive Order 007 on BAP 4, revoking the rights of occupancy on Land Use in the state.

Thus, the association appealed to the governor to reverse the order, adding that it contravened the Land Use Act.

The Gombe Bar made the observation via a communiqué jointly signed by the Chairman, Barrister Benjamin Sati; and the Legal Adviser, Barrister Abubakar Bafeto, which copy was obtained by our correspondent.

The comminique which read in parts noted: “We urge Your Excellency through the authorities to take the following steps: Reversal of the Revocation: We call for the immediate reversal of this declaration as it contravenes the Land Use Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and judicial authorities.

“Suspension of Documentation: To suspend the documentation processes related to this revocation to prevent unnecessary litigation.

“Enforce Legal Protections: Ensure all land revocations adhere to established legal frameworks, safeguarding the rights of landholders,” the association maintained.

While further emphasising its urgent needs, the communiqué further stressed, “We are united in defending the rights of landholders and promoting justice in land governance. Addressing these issues is essential for fostering a fair and equitable society.”

In the same vein, the branch tasked Yahaya on the need to improve the welfare of judicial officers in the state.

Arewa PUNCH reports further that the Bar also made a plea via the same communiqué requesting better welfare priority for the state’s judicial officials.

The part of the communique, which harped on housing, medical services, operational vehicles, and provision of equipment to lessen the burden of judicial officers, the NBA stressed is sequel to the association’s meeting which was held in Gombe, the state capital.

While lauding the government for its efforts on the completion of the Shariah Court of Appeal Complex and the construction of a state-of-the-art High Court Complex, the association said, “Judicial officers should be provided with secure and designated quarters. A reserved area for High Court Judges and magistrates within the metropolis is imperative.”

The Gombe Bar noted that, “Many judges have been using the same vehicles for over 13 years, resulting in significant wear. It is essential to replace these vehicles to facilitate efficient justice delivery,” the communiqué added.
