NBA President Dissolves All Standing, Ad-Hoc Committees; Constitutes Transition Committee

Date:

Below is the NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN’s notice dissolving all standing and ad-hoc committees set up by his administration as well as constituting the transition committee for his handover.

Distinguished Colleagues,

Following a successful election, wherein the Bar has elected a new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years, the current National Executive Committee has commenced the transition process.

Several Standing and Ad Hoc Committees were constituted within the past two years to handle specific assignments as spelt-out in their various terms of reference. Ahead of the expiration of the tenure of this administration, and in preparation thereto, I hereby, on behalf of the National Executive Council, dissolve all Standing and Ad-Hoc Committees of the Association, with the exception of the 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee (AGCPC). Similarly, the Governing Board of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, whose tenure expired on 18 March 2024, is hereby also dissolved. The erstwhile Chairman of the ICLE is to submit the Handover Report of the Governing Board, as earlier requested vide my email of 25 July 2024, not later than 9 August 2024.

The Election Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), together with the National Officers Election Appeal Committee (NOEAC), however, remain Standing until such a time that they are reconstituted, in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the NBA, 2015 (as amended in 2021).

The National Executive Committee sincerely appreciates members of the Committees for their selfless service and support for this administration. Your contributions have been of immense value to the Association, and we do not take it for granted. The Bar owes you a debt of gratitude.

Further to the foregoing, and to ensure a smooth and hitch-free hand-over process, a Transition Committee is hereby constituted as follows:

  1. Olawale Fapohunda, SAN – Chairman
  2. Chief Charles Luri Bala
  3. T. Mohammed
  4. Sylvester Udemezue
  5. Salman Alhaji Salman
  6. Mustapha Kashim
  7. Adama Mohammed
  8. Augustine Nwabueze Eseagwu
  9. Sagir Gezawa
  10. Chinaecherem Nwaubani – Secretary
  11. Hannatu Simon
  12. Bulus Atsen
  13. Nwabueze Kevin Obasi-obi
  14. Patience Olasuyi
  15. Chinelo Ofoegbunam
  16. Tosin Amadi
  17. Farida Umar Usman

I thank the members of the Committee for accepting to serve the Association in this capacity.

Best regards,
