NBA Relaunches Digital Stamp and Seal, Grants Free Access to Young Lawyers

Date:

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has officially relaunched its Digital Stamp and Seal for legal practitioners, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening professional regulation, enhancing ease of legal practice, and safeguarding the integrity of legal documentation in Nigeria.

The Digital Stamp and Seal initiative, first introduced under the administration of Mr Y. C. Maikyau, SAN, has now been upgraded to deliver a simpler, faster, and more accessible application process for lawyers nationwide. The relaunch underscores the NBA’s broader push to deploy technology in modernising legal practice and curbing abuses associated with unauthorised legal documentation.

A major highlight of the relaunch is the special concession extended to young lawyers. Legal practitioners who are between one and seven years post call and who have paid their Bar Practising Fee for the 2026 practice year will be entitled to obtain the Digital Stamp and Seal free of charge. The NBA said the measure is aimed at easing financial pressure on young lawyers and supporting their professional development.

The Digital Stamp and Seal remains a mandatory requirement for the authentication of legal documents in Nigeria. It is designed to prevent impersonation, forgery, and the activities of unqualified persons posing as lawyers, thereby protecting both the legal profession and the general public.

The Association encouraged eligible members to take advantage of the simplified application process and urged lawyers to promptly regularise their practising status to benefit from the relaunch.

According to the NBA, the initiative represents another concrete step toward upholding professional standards, promoting access to justice, and supporting young lawyers as the future of the Bar.
