The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has announced plans to publicly present the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 translated into the country’s three major indigenous languages—Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.
The event, which will hold across three regions of the country, marks a significant step in advancing inclusivity, accessibility, and public awareness around data protection and digital rights in Nigeria.
According to the Commission, the translated versions of the NDPA are aimed at promoting grassroots understanding of the law, especially among populations with limited proficiency in English. The translations, it said, will support lawful data processing practices, enhance compliance, and deepen citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s growing data protection ecosystem.
The public presentation will feature the formal unveiling of the translated NDPA, training and stakeholder feedback sessions, as well as discussions on collaboration between local governments, traditional institutions, and other key stakeholders.
The Nigeria Data Protection Act, signed into law in 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, establishes the legal framework for the protection and lawful processing of personal data in Nigeria.
