Oyo State Government Impounds Rams, Cow For Violating Environmental Laws

Date:

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, on Wednesday, impounded three rams and a cow in the Oluyole area of Ibadan, the state capital.

The OYRLEA Chairperson, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), announced this when she led an enforcement team to the area.

Chairman of Environmental Task Force, DCP Francis Ojomo (retd.), explained that the action became imperative following some petitions received from residents of Unique Estate, Oluyole, Ibadan.

She also issued a seven-day ultimatum to the residents of Abidiodan, in the Lagelu Local Government Area, to evacuate shanties on road setbacks, which have become hideouts for criminals and illegal activities.

The chairperson reiterated the agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental and sanitation laws, as well as anti-open rearing and grazing regulations and other related laws in the state.

Aderemi said, “We are giving the owner of the rams and cow a seven-day ultimatum to claim them to avoid forfeiture, in lieu of a fine option.

“Also, we are giving residents of Abidiodan, at the Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan, a seven-day ultimatum to evacuate shanties on road setbacks, which have become hideouts for criminals and illegal activities.

“Enforcement against street trading, anti-open rearing/grazing regulations and other related laws in the state has just begun,” she declared.

She further stressed the state government’s readiness and swift response to tackle and sort out every related offence, thus prosecuting violators of the extant laws.

“You will recall that extensive sensitisation and campaign efforts against street trading began with a flag-off at the Bodija Market earlier in January, and such has been a continuum till date.

“The OYRLEA is now taking enforcement action to ensure compliance,” she insisted.

The team was also joined by the Operation Burst, Environmental Task Force, officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Amotekun among others.
